Oregonpalooza Day 5!

Dune Buggy Day! Yeah! This was the highlight for Bears, Josh, my dad and I. We had so much fun. So, doesn't look like I can attach a song to this blog but please do me a favor and sing this song in your head while reading, it makes it so much better! The song is "Dune Buggy" by the Presidents of the United States of America. Love this song! Debie has long since dubbed this my song, has been all throughout high school and continues to be. She says, "It's just you for some reason, Kim." The best part is that it talks about a blue dune buggy an that is just what I got!

So, we pull up to Spinreel Dune Buggy Rentals and get a regular dune buggy for Bears and Josh. Dad rented for us another kind of dune buggy that was a little more like a jeep. It was very nice. Mom was so gracious to stay with the Bubbas while we hit the dunes. Thanks, Mom! I think she was just fine with this arrangement and was happy to get some 1-1 time with the Bubbs.

Here is a pictorial as best as I can do without showing faces. Don't want to put my little ones faces on the general Internet :). There are also some movies attached. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't quite capture all of the beauty of it. When you were on top of these dunes it was quite surreal. Just blankets of sand all around. Here we go...

First, we got all decked out in our cool helmets and goggles. Love this picture, think the helmet is bigger than Bears head. By the way, she was horrible excited about this. My little adrenaline junkie!

Then, we were escorted out to the dunes for some fun times. Here are the two adrenaline twins getting their kicks going super fast up and down the sand dunes. Bears kept shouting to Josh, "more, more!" Josh tried to hold her hand in case she was scared and her reply to that was, "No thank you Daddy, I am just fine."
Then after some times on the dunes, we headed off on a trail that would take us to the beach. Here are the two taking it all in. How cool is it to go 40 miles an hour on the beach while looking at the ocean that close. Pretty cool! Here is a video that shows it.

Then, as we were heading back from the ocean, Josh's dune buggy kept dying on him. So we headed back to get a new one. Unfortunately while we were on our way, Josh got his dune buggy really stuck in the sand. It took 3 of us to get this thing out!

Then Josh's buggy died again right at this turn and took both my dad and him to get it turned around again :). I tell ya!

We got it back to the place and they said to go ahead and keep driving it because it was just fine, but if it died again then to call in so they could tow it in. So off we went again all ready to pummel the dunes. Dad was at the wheel this time while Josh drove me. Bears was all done. Well, poor dad, he did his first dune and then it died on him. So, we called it in and got towed in. It was okay though because they took off a sizable amount of money and we were ready anyway. Kinda bummed we didn't get more time going up and down the dunes, but that is okay we will just have to go back!

Then, we headed off to Lakeville, Oregon to get some lunch. It was called the 8th Street Grill and it was delicious! The couple that owned it used to be commercial fisherman and now are doing this. They were very sweet and gave us a good recommendation on where to eat. We ended up eating by a beautiful lake that reminded us of Tahoe. It was cold out so we all ate in our cars. Then mom wanted to check out these gardens by our campground. They were quite beautiful and well worth the trip. Here is a picture of Josh and Bubbas hanging out overlooking them. Bears and Nana were dancing around in the gazebo right behind me while I was taking the picture reenacting the scene from Sound of Music (you all remember the song going on 16, right?) It was pretty cute and Bears was dancing and singing at the top of her lungs!

And the beautiful ocean scene right in front of them that we saw when we walked there. Quite majestic.

After that, we headed back to the 5th wheel, BBQed some steaks and potatoes and were ready for bed. We said our goodbyes to mom and dad as they were taking off for home in the morning. Josh made us a campfire and we sat out and basked in the coldness and smoke for a little bit as the kiddos slept.

Toodles!
